Join us at Gobi Desert Expedition on our journey through the Gobi Desert. This is how two weeks with us can be:
DAY 1 ULAANBAATAR:
Arrive at any time. An arrival transfer is included.
DAY 2 ULAANBAATAR:
This morning we enjoy a city tour, including visits to the Gandan monastery, Bogd Khan Palace and Zaisan Hill. Later we take a tour of the Central Museum of Mongolian Dinosaurs where we will learn about Gobi desert dinosaurs from an associate professor.
DAY 3 ULAANBAATAR/KHUSTAI NATIONAL PARK:
We travel to Khustai National Park-home of Mongolia’s wild horses. Here we meet Park staff and will learn about återintroduktionsprojektet for wild horses. Look out for Takhi horses in their natural habitat.
DAY 4 KHUSTAI NATIONAL PARK/KHARKHORIN:
We drive to the Karakorum, the ancient capital of Mongolia. Here we visit the country’s first centre in Lama-Buddhism, Erdene Zhu Monastery, and meet the main monk for an in-depth lesson in Buddhism. Later we also visit the Karakorum Museum.
DAY 5 KHARKHORIN/TSENKHER:
This afternoon we visit Tsenkher Hot Springs. Relax in the hot springs and experience its healing powers.
DAY 6 TSENKHER/ORKHONDALEN:
Today we travel to Orkhon and enjoy a hike to the Tuvkhun Monastery, founded in the 1650 century by Zanabazar, one of Mongolia’s most respected religious leaders. The monastery existent wooden buildings are integrated with a natural cave system perched on a mountainside with beautiful views of the Orkhondalen and surrounding pine forests.
DAY 7 ORKHONDALEN:
We visit a local family and their horse and yak rearing. Here we get to learn about their daily chores and how they produce cheese and butter. Take the opportunity to sample products such as Yoghurt and Yakgrädde and study their famous riding and grassland technology. Then you can enjoy a refreshing hike to a waterfall. We return to the Ger-camp for a traditional Mongolian barbecue, where the food is cooked over hot stones.
DAY 8 ORKHONDALEN/ONGIIN HIID:
Today we explore the Gobi, one of the world’s great deserts that covers much of the southern part of Mongolia. Here we visit the ruins of Hoshuu and Ongiin Khiid Monastery.
DAY 9 ONGIIN HIID/BAYANZAG:
Explore the Flaming Cliffs paleontological Place, world famous for the vast amount of dinosaur bones and eggs found here.
DAY 10 BAYANZAG/KHONGORYN ELS:
The journey continues to Khongoryn Els where we explore more of the Gobi desert. Wander through Mongolia’s largest sand dunes, often called “Singing Sands”.
DAY 11 KHONGORYN ELS:
Join us on a visit to a nomadic family who is involved with camel herding. Here we get an insight into their unique living environment. Try some of the everyday chores and take a camel tour. You can also take part in an archery lesson.
DAY 12 KHONGORYN ELS/YOLYN AM:
Drive through the beautiful gorges of the imposing Altai Mountain Chain in We take us through the beautiful green valleys of Yolyn Am and Dungeness Am in the mountain range Altai, located in the Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park. During the trip, we stop to explore the area on foot. Look out for wild Argali-sheep, stone goats, Desert gazelles and golden eagles. Later in the afternoon, we visit the Park museum where you can admire a collection of dinosaur bones.
DAY 13 YOLYN AM/ULAANBAATAR:
We fly back to Ulaanbaatar. In the evening we enjoy folklore and a farewell dinner.
